El festival de cultura contemporánea Europes, que hasta el próximo día 14 se desarrolla en más de 200 espacios de Barcelona, presenta dos exposiciones de producción propia que tienen mucho que ver entre ellas: Modernización, comisariada por Grzegorz Piatek y Jaroslaw Trybus, y Casas sin acabar, con obras del fotógrafo polaco Konrad Pustola.

Las obras comenzaron a principios de septiembre, pero será el 15 de noviembre cuando la ministra Garmendia y el lehendakari López pongan la primera piedra del nuevo edificio Ingema, núcleo vertebrador del mayor reto que afronta la Fundación Matía en sus 129 años de existencia: el 'Polo de innovación en envejecimiento', con vocación, sin ambages, de convertirse en los próximos cinco años «en la referencia europea más cualificada e innovadora en materia de envejecimiento».

Egun handia bizi zen atzo Amezketan. Herriko kultur etxea bihurtu dute garai batean Ibarluze eta Aierbene etxea zena. Inaugurazio ekitaldian herritar ugari elkartu ziren herriko plazan eguraldi nahiko kaskarra izan arren. Bertan, Jexux Iñurrita alkatea, Rafael Uribarren diputatua, Etorlurreko gerentea, Florentino Ugalde eta diputatu nagusiak bat egin zuten.

Florentino Ugaldek azaldu zuenez etxea 1500 urte inguruan agertzen zen Amezketako paperetan eta bertan hainbat arlotako pertsonai ezberdinak bizi izan ziren. Besteak beste, Juan Lopez de la Torre, herriko konfiterua, maixtra eta beste asko. Betidanik, beraz, leku berezia izan da Amezketan eta aurrerantzean ere horrela izateko berritu da. Etxearen atarian dantzatu zuten herriko dantzariek Aurreskua eta ondoren, alkatea izan zen lehena hitz egiten. Honek, garbi azaldu zuen erabilpen anitzeko zentru berria «legealdi honetan erronka handia» zela eta euren «ametsa egi bihurturik, pozik gaude eta amezketarron guztion partez esker mila eskaini diguzuen laguntzangatik, bestela ezinezkoa izango baitzen aurrera eramatea. Azken batean, kultur etxea, KZgunea, liburutegia, sendagilearen gela, eta betelako zerbitzuak eskainiko dituen eraikinean 2,2 milioi euroko inbertsio egingo da.

Atzoko ekitaldia eraikinaren bisitarekin amaitu zen. Hamaiketakoa ez zen faltatu, eta dagoeneko batek baino gehiagok buruan zuen ikastaro berri guztiak bertan egingo direla. Ez da toki txarra izango, besteak beste, datorren astean zehar kultur hitzordu guztiak egitek: katak, diaporamak, hitzaldiak eta beste guztiak.

"Es un edifico elegante, parece que lleve un traje; ni siquiera las antenas, los aires acondicionados y los cerramientos de las terrazas le restan potencia". Se nota que Javier Antón adora el tema de su tesis, la obra de Javier Carvajal. A los pies de la Torre de Valencia, el edificio madrileño más emblemático de Carvajal, el doctorando de la Universidad de Navarra quita importancia a la polémica que desató cuando fue construida. Sus críticos dijeron que rompía la perspectiva de la Puerta de Alcalá desde Cibeles y la obra llegó a pararse. "Pero mírala, pasado el tiempo, ahí está", dice Antón versionando la canción de Ana Belén para defender la poderosa torre de 1973.

"Javier Carvajal es uno de los arquitectos españoles más brillantes de los años sesenta, aunque quizá no ha sido tratado con la justicia que se merece", explica Antón. "Se creó muchos enemigos, pero ahora empieza a haber una distancia suficiente para rescatarlo".

Highly illustrated and detailed in scope, the book combines comprehensive technical analyses of concrete materials with useful case studies demonstrating the value of the material in low-energy, green building.

Part 1 (Technology) takes a detailed technical look at embodied CO2 in different forms of concrete including cement, cement replacements, formwork, precast, reinforcements, aggregates and concrete blocks. The manufacturing and distribution processes of each material product are described and embodied CO2 figures are given. CO2 audit figures are also included for materials which have been subject to an audit. Embodied CO2 tables, construction industry CO2 audit figures and DEFRA conversion tables are included in the Appendix to Part 1. The book then goes on to cover the heating and cooling of buildings, and how to use concrete’s thermal mass to reduce long-term energy consumption.

Part 2 (Case Studies) contains 24 superbly illustrated, detailed case studies which show the materials covered in Part 1 being used to create visually exciting, efficient new buildings. Building types covered include residential buildings, offices, education buildings and visitor centres. Each case study includes a statement on the building’s energy efficiency, how it was specified and designed, and an environmental impact study which details the SAP ratings where applicable.

About the Author
David Bennett BSc, MSc, CEng, MICE is a consultant, author and lecturer on the use and application of all forms of insitu and precast architectural concrete. He runs CPDs and Short Courses on Architectural Concrete, advises architects and contractors on fine concrete finishes and specification writing and, since drafting the new book Sustainable Concrete Architecture (published by RIBA Publishing); he can advise professionals on how to audit all the C02 emissions in the construction of a building.
